RLM 75 Mittelgrau
A high-quality semi-gloss WW2 Luftwaffe purplish gray acrylic or enamel paint for scale models and historical miniatures.
RLM 75 Medium Gray Color Guide:
- RLM 75 Mittelgrau (designated Grauviolett in some sources) was introduced in 1941 according to the new revision of L.Dv. 521/1.
- The RLM 75 Medium Gray scheme was designed for use in the gray camouflage of Luftwaffe fighters. In addition to RLM 75 Mittelgrau, this scheme called for the use of RLM 74 Dunkelgrau, and the undersides were to be painted light blue with RLM 76 Lichtblau. This scheme was also used on ANR aircraft from the spring of 1944, when the Italian command abandoned the use of Italian aircraft paints, preferring instead German camouflage.
- RLM 75 was also used extensively in the camouflage of German night fighters of World War II, when the upper surfaces were painted entirely in RLM 76 Lichtblau, and irregular mottles and blotches of RLM 75 Medium Gray were applied over the top. Sometimes RLM 74 Dunkelgrau could be used in addition to RLM 75 Mittelgrau in such camouflage. The lower surfaces under this scheme were painted with RLM 76 Lichtblau as well or could be overpainted with RLM 22 Schwarz for better night camouflage.
- RLM 75 Medium Gray was also used in a transitional fighter camouflage scheme at the end of World War II, consisting of RLM 75 and RLM 83 Dunkelgrün on the upper surfaces with RLM 76 on the lower surfaces. This was due to the lack of stocks of RLM 82 Hellgrün at some German aircraft factories in late 1944 and early 1945.
