According to Wehrmacht order HM 281, issued in March 1941, which regulates the use of equipment used in the African campaign vehicles and armored vehicles must be painted 1/3 in RAL 7008 gray-green and 2/3 in RAL 8000 yellow-brown. Small areas as well as the rims and running wheels of tracked vehicles should be painted the same color. In reality most of the vehicles and armored vehicles used in Africa had a monochrome camouflage consisting only of RAL 8000. Only in the initial stages did the DAK vehicles appear in two-color camouflage, with RAL 7008 "gray-green". After the completion of the African campaign DAK vehicles were used in other theaters of military operations, in particular it was actively used on the Eastern Front.
