ANA 601 Insignia White

A high-quality semi-gloss WW2 US white acrylic or enamel paint for aircraft scale models and creative work.

ANA 601 Insignia White Guide:

  • ANA 601 Insignia White was a white color introduced with the issue of ANA Bulletin No. 157, dated September 28, 1943.
  • Later ANA Bulletin No. 157 added ANA 626 Semi-gloss White, and then glossy ANA 511 Insignia White was introduced under ANA Bulletin No. 166 of December 4, 1943. All of these colors were similar in hue, the main difference being the degree of gloss of these paints.
  • ANA 601 Insignia White was widely used for insignia, stencils, and markings on U.S. aircraft from 1943 through the 1950s.
  • ANA 601 Insignia White was applied to camouflage US naval aircraft in the middle of the war. This scheme, in addition to ANA 601, which was used for the lower surfaces of the aircraft, also called for the use of ANA 607/607 Sea Blue for the upper surfaces and ANA 608 Intermediate Blue for the fuselage sides.
  • ANA 601 Insignia White was also used in the Atlantic ASW camouflage of U.S. naval aircraft of World War II. It was also proposed to use ANA 601 Insignia White for the lower surfaces, while the upper surfaces, unlike standard naval aircraft camouflage, were painted ANA 621 Dark Gray. The fuselage sides of some aircraft were to be painted ANA 620 Light Gull Gray.
  • ANA 601 Insignia White was replaced by its successor FS 17875 Insignia White in the 1950s.
