ANA 621 Dark Gull Gray

A high-quality semi-gloss WW2 US Navy ASW gray acrylic or enamel paint for scale models and creative work.

ANA 621 Dark Gull Gray Color Guide:

  • ANA 621 Dark Gull Gray was introduced in 1943 with the revision of ANA Bulletin No. 157.
  • Beginning in July 1943, ANA 621 Dark Gull Gray was proposed for use in an anti-submarine warfare (ASW) aircraft camouflage scheme used primarily in the Atlantic beginning in July 1943. This scheme resembled the standard US Navy blue camouflage used in the Pacific, but gray shades were chosen instead. There were 2 variants of this scheme, the first of which, in addition to ANA 621 Dark Gull Gray for the upper surfaces, also suggested using ANA 620 Light Gull Gray for the fuselage sides and ANA 601 Insignia White for the lower surfaces. The second option was to use ANA 620 Light Gull Gray over ANA 601 Insignia White with no intermediate color.
  • ANA 621 Dark Gull Gray was also used to camouflage US-built aircraft supplied under the Lend-Lease program. It was mainly used for fighters painted using the Day Fighter scheme beginning in 1943. This camouflage scheme involved the use of ANA 621 Dark Gull Gray for the lower surfaces instead of the original British MAP Medium Sea Grey. The upper surfaces were to be painted in ANA 613 Olive Drab and ANA 603 Sea Gray respectively.
