Red
A high-quality semi-gloss WW2 RAF roundel red acrylic or enamel paint for scale models and historical miniatures.
MAP Red Color Guide:
- MAP Red was a dull brownish-red color used to paint insignia on RAF and FAA aircraft during World War II. This color replaced the brighter shade of Matt Red which was widely used in the 1930s.
- MAP Red is applicable for painting RAF/FAA aircraft roundels of types A, A.1, A.2, B, B.1, C, and C.1.
- To avoid friendly fire or possible confusion with Himomaru insignia applied to Japanese enemy aircraft, the MAP Red color was overpainted white on SEAC and CBI aircraft.
- Following AMO Directive A.664/42 of 1942, MAP Red was also used for formation letters on RAF night aircraft. This color replaced Basic Grey used prior to the issuance of this directive.
- The interior surfaces of the fabric skin of RAF aircraft in the 1930s and 1940s were coated with a primer whose color was very similar to MAP Red.
