Desert Pink
A high-quality semi-gloss RAF pinkish sand acrylic or enamel paint for scale models and historical miniatures.
Desert Pink Color Guide:
- Desert Pink was a washable paint for low-altitude RAF tactical aircraft operating in desert areas in the 1990s-2000s.
- Desert Pink was the color of desert sand with a pinkish tint when fresh, but with the Middle Eastern heat and sun, it faded closer to tan. Given its long service during the Gulf War, most aircraft painted Desert Pink looked rather worn and faded. Constant repainting gave the aircraft a distinctive patchy appearance, enhanced by the excessive chipping natural to most washed-out paints.
- Desert Pink was first used on RAF aircraft during Operation Granby Desert Storm. This washable paint was used on aircraft such as the Jaguar, Buccaneer, and Tornado GR.1/1A attack aircraft.
- Even though BS 381C contains a similar shade of BS 380 Desert Sand, Desert Pink has never appeared in the official color standards of the UK, neither in BS 381C nor in BS 4800, nor other BS standards.
