FS 36270 Medium Gray Color Guide:

• FS 36270 Medium Gray was used extensively in tactical gray camouflage schemes for US aircraft from the late 1970s to the present.
• FS 36270 Medium Gray was used in Hill Gray camouflage for F-4 and F-16 aircraft beginning in 1978. The original version of this scheme called for FS 36270 Medium Gray to be used to paint the fuselage sides of F-16 aircraft, while the lower surfaces were to be painted in FS 36375 Light Ghost Gray and the upper surfaces were to be painted in FS 36118 Medium Gunship Gray. This scheme was later simplified and FS 36270 Medium Gray was used to paint the lower surfaces and fuselage sides, while the upper surfaces were retained in FS 36118.
• FS 36270 Medium Gray was also used for the gray two-color wrap-around camouflage of the A-7D aircraft in ANG service during the 1980s and early 1990s. This scheme involved using FS 36270 Medium Gray and FS 36118 Medium Gunship Gray for camouflage patches on the upper and lower surfaces of the aircraft.
• FS 36270 Medium Gray also found its way into the modern Have-Glass camouflage scheme introduced in 2016. According to this scheme, aircraft should be fully painted in FS 36170 Camouflage Gray camouflage, while radomes and radio transparent panels should be painted in FS 36270 Medium Gray.
• FS 36270 Medium Gray was also used extensively in the USAF Aggressor and USN Adversary camouflage schemes.
