Power was provided by a liquid-cooled Junkers Jumo 213E-1 inverted V-12 engine equipped with a two-stage, three-speed supercharger. Utilizing MW 50 water-methanol injection and a GM 1 nitrous oxide boost system, the fighter achieved a top speed of 475 mph at 41,010 ft, pushing the absolute performance envelope for operational piston-engine aircraft of the era (estimated at roughly 500 mph).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA parallel short-span variant, designated the Ta 152C and powered by the Daimler-Benz DB 603LA, never reached full-scale production. Operating in airspace dominated by overwhelming Allied air superiority, they were largely relegated to flying low- to medium-altitude top cover for Messerschmitt Me 262 jet fighters during takeoff and landing.
