RLM 42 Gray Color Guide:

• RLM 42 Grau was introduced in 1936 with the first edition of the Luftwaffe Directive L.Dv. 521.
• RLM 42 Grau was developed as an interior paint for Luftwaffe aircraft. The finish in this color was used as acid-proofing around battery storage areas of aircraft.
• RLM 42 Gray was also used for marking engine systems of German aircraft in the mid-1930s.
• RLM 42 Grau, together with RLM 41, which also bore the designation "Grau", did not last long and was discontinued in 1938 with the second edition of L.Dv. 521.
